My local cinema just played all 3 extended LOTR films, it reminded me how beautiful this trilogy is. So much better than the Marvel nonsense.

In my opinion, this magnificent trilogy can never be remarsted, it was way ahead of it's time, the only way they could do it again is if they used all the unused footage to make a further extended edition, in short term this triogly is forever and can not be replaced.

With how popular the films are, I wish they’d just rescan them & do a true remaster at native 4k with no upscaling & denoising I mean, the movies deserve it & I would actually be up for crowd funding it even tho they def could pay for it themselves

I've noticed a lot of remasters lately have been pretty shitty, including the use of AI to upscale with sometimes horrific results. Another thing I've noticed is that "lightning in a bottle geniuses" (Richard Garriott, George Lucas, etc.) only made awesome shit because of time, place, and many limitations. Remove the limitations and remove them from the lightning in a bottle environment in which the original work was created and you often get straight up disaster. It's interesting, and sad.

Well, all I'll say is, there's a shot in Two Towers where there's a computer mouse flying around the screen, they need to remove that (during the battle for Helm's Deep). It annoys me everytime I see it, aside from a bloody good upscale & colour correction being needed.

Make a video on how Criterion screwed up the so-called director-approved version of "Matewan"...the most offensive example of the amber and teal mentality gripping Hollywood in how they are all remastering classic movies with today's technology. There was nothing wrong with how it actually looked on film but now it's garrish green and puke yellow and it's absolutely ridiculous. LOTR suffers from the same mentality and then even worse because the 4K version has grain reduction added.

I just saw a video on how la la land uniquely speaks to each person and it was so amazing to hear your perspective. I think that the combination of realism and dreamer idealism, alongside the gorgeous music and visuals really speaks to me as a hobbyist artist. I really admire that sort of passion for one thing within people. I think that when Mia gives up everything for her one-woman show, she follows that passion from Seb and his encouragement. There is a reversal from the beginning of the movie, as now Mia is giving everything up for her dream and Seb is giving up his dream. When they first met, Mia had been more skeptical and Seb more impassioned, but he had re-inspired.

I always hated the framing of the widescreen editions of Lord of the Rings. It was filmed at 1.85:1 aspect ratio and then cropped down to 2.35:1 for theatrical release and DVD/BluRay, and cropped to 1.35:1 for VHS. Neither format looked perfect, as they were both cropped considerably, but I actually thought the 1.35:1 version looked considerably better. The widescreen image is often cropped way too tight (especially in close-ups), and is distracting and just plain looks bad at times. I'd love for it to be re-released in a slightly looser 2.0:1 format, adding a bit of breathing room at the top and bottom. Other movies not shot in widescreen format that also suffer from being cropped drastically for widescreen release: Reservoir Dogs and The Matrix.

I don't take issue with the colour grading too much, I genuinely wouldnt mind if he had updated the cgi slightly, meaning shadows, lighting on the cgi possibly any textures. Just subtle things to bring it up to date. Either way, in Peter Jackson I trust. He is a legend.

Michael leaving the show was unavoidable because Steve Carell's movie career took off. Replacing him with Andy made sense but the execution was terrible. Ed Helms' movie career also started taking off and the producers allowed him to be absent from the show. This hurt the show. If Helms could not be on the show full-time, the producers should have cast someone else. The role of the office manager is critical to the show's success. The producers decided to make Andy unlikable which was terrible. Jim should have become the manager because it makes sense. He was co-manager before and the natural arc would be his ascension to the office manager position. Jim's position could be filled by a young upstart salesman who is a lot like Michael Scott. Bringing in Clark Duke and Jake Lacy ruined the show. I found them boring. They were late to the game. The last season is where the cast was split up in different locations. Jim and Darryl were in another office running their sports agent business. Ryan and Kelly were absent most of the time. The point is a group working together in an office and not different locales.

They will probably wait till Martin Freeman is old so it will end up looking stupid.

As someone who loves his older works I wish he makes those visually chill but narrative strong stories again. His big 2 movies after Kiminonawa follows the main stream that try to stun the audience with visuals and actions, while you dont really feel any emotional builds up that his old works had.

I’ve got the Blu Ray extended editions of LOTR and The Hobbit and never noticed. Really interesting video, I think a lot of movies suffer in 4K so I won’t be buying any. I can’t fault anything in LOTR or The Hobbit apart from that one scene at 19:38, we all just laughed when he did that! Awful sequence that was, but the films are great.

I get your point but i never noticed a change in the colours when watching it over an over again throughout the last decade, it‘s such a „small“ detail to hang yourself up on, when the story is the main thing that captivated millions of fans, but i have to say that your analysis was very interesting to watch, great work.
